The scene inspired a painting by French impressionist Claude Monet in 1874. “The Zuiderkerk” now hangs in the Philadelphia Museum of Art. You will also be interested to learn that Zuiderkerk was the parish church of Rembrandt (1606 – 1669). He lived a few steps away from 1639 through 1656. His former residence is now the Rembrandt House Museum.
