This prickly shrub seen here framing Loch Ness grows wild in patches along roads and hillsides. A Fabaceae cousin to the common gorse is broom. The latter has similar, bright yellow flowers yet a smooth stem. To a tourist’s eye, both plants add a delightful accent to the countryside. To residents, they are an invasive weed.
