Yatu Cactus and Divi-divi Tree North of Kralendijk, Bonaire

Vegetation is sparse on Bonaire, especially along the northeast coastline. Cacti are the predominate flora. The island has several species. This lemaireocereus girseus, which the locals call yatu, is very common. Its rows of thorns in a rosette pattern are favored for building fences. In the background is a divi-divi tree (caesalpinia coriaria). They typically grow bent to the west by the force of the steady trade winds.
