Rodney Square is the historical center of Wilmington, Delaware. It was built in 1922 by three Du Pont cousins during the same year they purchased and reorganized the DuPont Company. A year later, the Wilmington Public Library was built in a Beaux-Arts style. Notice the row of owls and terracotta, Egyptian-looking sphinx carvings of half woman and lion with wings adorning the classic Greek Ionic columns.
