The name is an acronym for Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow. When the Walt Disney Company opened Epcot on October 1,1982, it was their second theme park in Bay Lake. Disney has controlled the city since it was incorporated in 1967. The municipality has a population of less than 50 people.
