One look at the Villa Vizcaya and you would not be surprised if it was a palazzo built along the Grand Canal in Venice by a wealthy aristocrat. It even has colorful striped pali mooring poles. Instead, this was the former winter mansion of James Deering when built in the 1920s. This National Historic Landmark located in Coconut Grove has been called the Hearst Castle of the East. Today, Villa Vizcaya is a museum managed by Miami-Dade County.
