The USS Midway, which was named after a critical battle against the Japanese in 1942, was the largest ship in the world for ten years after it was launched in 1945. It is humbling to stand on the flight deck of this 972 foot aircraft and stare up at the bridge which also served as the admiral’s and captain’s quarters.
