The name Windsor has become synonymous with the castle. However, this delightful town located about 20 miles west of London in the Royal County of Berkshire has a lot more to offer visitors. During the 11th century, it was called Windlesora in reference to its position near the Thames River. In the late 12th century, it was divided into Old Windsor and New Windsor.
