The 1692 witch trials were a deplorable chapter in American history. Yet, they created a lasting annuity for Salem, Massachusetts. The town is full of memorabilia, museums, historical locations and cemeteries that compete to tell their stories to visitors. From 1683 until 1881, over 600 mostly wealthy people were buried in the Salem Street Burying Ground. The most common headstone is the winged skull.
