Originally built in 1693, Porte Saint-Jean shares the distinction of being the oldest gate in the Ramparts of Québec City. The arch is also the youngest in terms of its reconstruction date of 1939. You will thoroughly enjoy walking along the elevated ramparts and peering through the crenels for changing views of Vieux-Québec. Wear comfortable shoes because the wall is about 2.9 miles long. The fortifications are a National Historic Site of Canada. Alternatively, go through Saint-Jean Gate heading east.
