A visual highlight at Parque Los Fundadores (Founding Fathers Park) is watching this performance of the Papantla Flyers. Five costumed men climb a 98 foot pole. Then, while one of them plays the flute on top, the other four swing and rotate to the ground while suspended by their ankles. This ritual was created in today’s central Mexico about 450 years ago to appease the gods while begging for the end of a severe drought.
