Talk about endurance … Raoul Gunsbourg was the opera director of the Opéra de Monte-Carlo for almost sixty years, from 1892 until 1951. Before that, he was self-educated and served in the Russian army and then developed his interest in opera in Moscow before the czar of Russia recommended him to the wife of Prince Albert I of Monaco.
