Old Point Loma Lighthouse in San Diego, California

On a clear day, plan a visit to the Cabrillo National Monument for a spectacular view of San Diego Bay, Coronado Island and the downtown skyline. The park is named after the Spanish explorer Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo who discovered the area in 1542. Also explore the Old Point Loma Lighthouse and the Assistant Keeper’s Quarters. They provide a wonderful glimpse of what it must have been like for a keeper to work 365 days a year to help ships navigate between 1855 and 1891.
