New Town Hall is a great example of architectural pageantry. The offices for the city council, mayor and municipal agencies began in 1867. Construction of Neues Rathaus was not finished until 1906. The standout feature is Rathausturm. Inside of the 279 foot clock tower are 43 bells, the largest carillon in Germany. At 9:00 p.m. every night, they play Johannes Brahms’ Opus 49, Number 4, better known as “Lullaby.” Don’t miss the opportunity to take an elevator to the observation platform for panoramic views of Old Town.
