High atop Montijuïc Hill is the National Palace of Montjuïc. This magnificent Spanish Renaissance building was the main pavilion for the 1929 Barcelona International Exhibition. After Expo 1929, it became the National Art Museum of Catalonia. Within its half million square feet is a wonderful collection of Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance artwork, paintings, frescos, statues and coins. Most exhibits are from the 19th and 20th centuries. A few date back a thousand years. The MNAC offers visitors free admission.
