In 1927, the Ministry of War commissioned architect Adolf Florensa to design this Neoclassical structure at Plaza del Portal de la Paz. Within the pediment is a medallion with the carved relief of Spain’s coat of arms as it appeared from 1931 until 1939 during the Second Spanish Republic. Gobierno Militar de Barcelona now serves as the headquarters for the Ministry of Defense.
