Las Olas Boulevard means “the waves” in Spanish. The one-mile thoroughfare is lined with shops, art galleries, jewelry stores, bars and restaurants. The street was built in 1917. After suffering decay, an extensive renovation was launched in 2002. Las Olas Boulevard is now an upscale, tree-lined neighborhood and a quaint extension of downtown.
