9 Kayakers on Whairepo Lagoon in Wellington, New Zealand

These high school girls were giggling and splashing during a kayaking field trip in Whairepo Lagoon. This small, man-made inlet of Lambton Harbour is adjacent to Frank Kitts Park. The lagoon was nameless until December, 2015. In the Māori language, whai repo means stingray. On the right is City to Sea Bridge. Since 1994, this footbridge has spanned Jervois Quay and connected the Civic Center with the Wellington Waterfront. The circular building is a convention complex and concert hall called the Michael Fowler Centre.
