In 1881, Maurici Garrán, who was the director of the Board of Works, designed Palau de Mar as an enormous waterfront warehouse serving Port Vell. In 1992, the Palace of the Sea was converted into multi-use facility. Four years later, the primary tenant became the History Museum of Catalonia. The museum traces the evolution and major events of the Catalan culture from the stone age until today. After exploring all four floors of exhibits, have something to eat at the rooftop restaurant.
