The rust on these old farm implements matches the color of the Navajo sandstone cliffs in the background. Imagine how primitive farming must have been in the late 19th century after the town was founded by Jacob Hamblin in 1870. Beginning in 1842, he was an early missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Utah. For 32 years, he was also an interpreter and peacemaker between the Mormons and the regional Navajo Indians. Jacob Hamblin Park is named in his honor.
