Wolfgang made a hard right, wedged between two bollards installed to block traffic, and drove onto a cobblestone sidewalk in front of the cathedral. The Metropolitan Cathedral of Quito has been the commanding visual of Ecuador’s capital city since 1565. The façade blends Gothic, Baroque, Neoclassical and Mudéjar styles, is encircled with statues of saints and angels, and features three green ceramic domes. This entrance facing Plaza de la Independencia is called the Arch of Carondelet.
