By the time she reached the African American Museum, her mind was clear and the anxiety was gone. The sense of calm was euphoric. The African American Museum houses more than 750,000 objects chronicling African American culture and history in the United States since 1776. There are six floors of permanent and rotating exhibits. The museum opened in 1976 as part of the Bicentennial and is affiliated with the Smithsonian.
