Most people think of Spain as one country. Actually, since 1978, the Kingdom of Spain is a State of Autonomies comprised of 17 autonomous communities. Barcelona is the capital city of the Catalonia community. There are 135 members of the Parliament of Catalonia. They manage Catalonia’s government, agencies and budget. Their sessions are conducted in this mid-18th century building designed by Próspero de Verboom as a military arsenal. Also housed here is the Museum of Modern Art (Museu d’Art Modern).
