Captain America sprang to life in 1941 by Joe Simon. Similar to Captain America’s alter ego Steve Rogers, the cartoonist was frail so he could not serve during World War II. Instead, he had his superhero fight valiantly against Axis enemies. The character was retired in 1950 but was recruited back into action by Marvel Comics in 1964.
