Boston Marathon Massacre Memorial in Copley Square in Boston, Massachusetts

On April 15, 2013, two bombs exploded on Boylston Street near the Boston Marathon’s finish line. Three died and over 250 were injured, including 14 who required amputations. The nation watched in horror during a massive, four-day manhunt, including a city-wide lockdown. The town tried to cope using the slogan, “Stay Strong Boston.” Huge memorials of flowers, teddy bears, victims’ photos and tennis shoes emerged near the bombing sites. The largest was here in Copley Square.
