40 rooms are required inside of the Bavarian National Museum to display an extensive collection of decorative arts dating back two thousand years. The major genres represented include Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo and Art Nouveau. Among the eclectic items are sculptures, jewelry, tapestries, textiles, musical instruments, paintings, porcelain, furniture and Nativity figures. Many of the pieces exhibited by Bayerischen Nationalmuseum were owned by family dynasties such as the Houses of Wittelsbach (Bavaria) and Medici (Italy).
