The Franciscans built this beautiful Basilica of Santa Croce from 1294 through 1442. At the apex of the marble façade is the Star of David. Inside is a stunning array of frescos. This Roman Catholic church is also known as the Temple of the Italian Glories. The elite of Florence were buried here for five centuries. Among the tombs are the remains of Michelangelo and Galileo.
