The Spanish Navy was founded in the 13th century. During the 16th and 17th centuries, it helped Spain become a world power by conquering foreign lands after the discovery of the New World and the first global circumnavigation. These are a few of the stories you will learn among the shipping artifacts at Maritime Museum of Barcelona. The exhibits are housed in the former Drassanes Reials de Barcelona. Initial construction of the Gothic-style Royal Shipyard occurred in the late 13th century and was finished in 1390.
