In 1961, when this 449 foot tower was built on top of the AT&T Switching Center, telephone calls were transmitted using microwave radio relays across a network of antennas. This tower ceased operation in 1993, but it stands proudly in downtown Los Angeles as a reminder of a bygone technology.
