In 2013, the Alfred C. Glassell Jr. Sustain Building opened on the campus of the University of Miami’s Marine Technology and Life Sciences complex on Virginia Key, Florida. Inside is a wind-wave surge simulator that can generate the effects of a category 5 hurricane in three dimensions. Its benefactor was the founder of the Transcontinental Gas Pipeline Company. He was also an avid sports fisherman. In 1953 he caught a 1,560 pound black marlin off the coast of Peru that still holds the record.
