Miraflores is a resort town near Lima, Peru. Its many parks, bars, restaurants and shops attract the locals and tourists. The Playa Makaha is a favorite among sun worshipers and surfers plus those who want to watch the sunset over the Pacific Ocean. The polished rocks along this beach make an unusual clacking sound as the surf rolls them around. The pier offers a few shops and the La Rosa Náutica restaurant.

Aficionados of street art will love visiting the tourist town of Miraflores near Lima. This wealthy city of about 93,000 caters to beach goers, surfers and shoppers plus hosts lots of pubs, nightclubs, restaurants and high-end hotels. Missing from the tourist books is a description of all the murals that grace the town’s walls, like this cubism-style woman with a third eye. It is the work of Pésimo, a Peruvian street artist who often works as a team with Entes. Together they created Latido Americano, an annual festival in Lima for graffiti artists.

At the top of a costal cliff in Miraflores is El Parque del Amor or Love Park. Couples of all ages but especially young sweethearts, such as the pair in the right corner, come here to emulate a giant statue called El Beso. In English it is named The Kiss or Lovers in Embrace. The artwork portrays the sculptor, Victor Delfin, and his wife. Surrounding this tribute to lovers is a mosaic wall filled with romantic quotes.

The dramatic, Costa Verde’s cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean is a favorite jumping off point for paragliders. The paraport is located in Parque el Faro next to the La Marina Lighthouse. When the wind conditions are right, the sky is filled with thrill seekers dangling below their colorful canopies. I would rather be engaged in kissing my wife like the sculpture at left called El Beso (The Kiss) rather than kissing my butt goodbye.

Across from Parque Kennedy are the twin bell towers of the Church of the Miraculous Virgin. A statue of the Virgin Mary stands above the neoclassical entrance of this Roman Catholic church. It was designed by Polish architect Ricardo de Jaxa Malachowski. The Iglesia de la Virgen Milagrosa was built in 1930.
