Coeur de Boeuf Tomatoes and Thiou Canal in Annecy, France

If you ask where Annecy’s three-day-a-week framers’ market is held, the quick answer will be along Rue Sainte Claire. But several vendors also raise their tents, stalls or rickety tables along the bridges crossing the Thiou Canal and then line them with fresh produce, fruits and flowers. It is hard to decide which view is more beautiful: the bright red Coeur de Boeuf tomatoes or the waterway in the background.

On Tuesday, Friday and Sunday mornings, the Rue Sainte Claire Market comes alive with rows of stalls offering fresh fruit, vegetables, flowers and delicacies. While the locals are busy inspecting, squeezing and smelling potential purchases, the tourists enjoy the bustling ambiance. By noon, everything is swept away except the memories.
